Equal split formula

The simplest roommate split adds rent and shared utilities, then divides by the number of people paying. That gives an equal monthly estimate before individual subscriptions, parking, pets, or one-off purchases.

When an equal split may not fit

Bedrooms can differ in size, one person may have parking, or one roommate may cover more utilities. In those cases, use this equal split as the starting point, then adjust the agreement in writing before signing a lease.
